How records and disputes work
Where the records on a report come from, and what happens when one is challenged.
Where records come from
Manufacturers
Fetched from the manufacturer's service system when a report is bought. We do not change them.
WorkshopsAdded by verified workshops, and labelled with the workshop that wrote them.
Owners
Supplied by the car's owner after an identity check, and shown in their own section until the workshop named on them confirms
them.
When an owner names a workshop
We email the workshop
The workshop named on the record gets a link to it. No account is needed.
They confirm, replace or dispute it
Confirmed, it joins the counted records. If the workshop adds its own record of the work, that replaces the owner's. Disputed,
it shows a Disputed flag on reports while we review it.
We review it
We look at the record, any invoice and the workshop's answer, and may email with questions. We email the workshop when the review
closes.
Questions
Can anyone else dispute a record?Yes, any record added by an owner or a workshop. Contact us with the report number and the record, and we review it with whoever made the record. Manufacturer records come from the manufacturer's system: tell us and we pass it on, and a reissue shows any change they make.
What changes when a dispute is upheld? The record is removed, and reports issued after that leave it out. A report already issued stays as it was: reissuing it inside its 30 days gives a version without it.
How long does a review take?We aim to close a review within 7 days.
